About
Hi!
I'm Conn, a former content marketing writer, technical project manager, and video game QA analyst transitioning into technical writing.
I've written for a variety of clients, from pool maintenance companies to molecular imaging facilities. Growing up in a non-English speaking immigrant household, I learned how to internalize often complicated concepts—from Internet browsers to health insurance policies—consider my audience, and deliver information in accessible language and terms.
I discovered my love for understanding and explaining complex systems as a content writer covering molecular imaging studies for PhDs. I was wholly unprepared with my BFA in sculpture, but eagerly took the opportunity to ask my client many questions, had long discussions with friends in the medical field, and visited molecular imaging exhibits at local hospitals. My other client accounts wanted content for consumers, but my molecular imaging client, who required the highest subject matter expertise, wanted blog articles for fellow PhDs. After an initial phase of feedback from the client, I soon grew to understand the level of expertise that PhDs had and could consistently author content for a specialized audience.
This passion for learning complicated subjects and adjusting for different audiences led me to pursue technical project management, where I learned about web development. I was particularly drawn to front-end web dev. From there, I decided to learn more about hardware at the Microsoft Store while independently studying HTML, CSS, and web design. I delved deeper into software development by going into video game QA. While my teammates rightfully enjoyed spending their time in the game, I realized that my greatest professional joy was working closely with cross-functional stakeholders to document features and systems. Through video games, I discovered that technical writing was its own discipline that combines two of my favorite professional activities—simplifying complex concepts and writing for different audiences.
As a part of my journey to transition into technical writing, I took the Certified Technical Writing Course with Bunker Hill Community College. Upon completion, I considered various portfolio hosting sites, but decided to build my own website with some guidance from developer friends, which has helped maintain both my coding and collaboration skills.
Feel free to look through my portfolio and resume.
I hope to work with you!
